The Science of Reading is an ever-evolving body of research that teaches us how the brain learns to read. The research is used to point educators in the right direction for how they teach and assess reading skills.

Instead of prompting children to rely on picture cues and guess words as they read, teachers are providing students with the skills they need to accurately decode text. This includes teaching phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension.

The decodable messages and search-and-find activities in each of our books provide students with opportunities to practice their phonics and phonemic awareness skills. Throughout the stories, children are prompted to manipulate the sounds in words and recognize that changing sounds can also change word meanings.

Here at Yellow Finch Learning, we are dedicated to providing educators, SLPs and parents with resources that employ research-based practices.
